Review: A Night at the Musicals

comedytragedy

A brace of Leicestershire’s choirs last night regaled an audience at their summer concert with songs from stage musicals. Semper Singers, who rehearse weekly at Samworth Academy, and Fosse Singers, based just a few miles away near Fosse Road North, joined together for a fabulous concert of music from shows such as The Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, Evita, and Wicked, along with many more.

Accompanied by pianist Josephine Markham, who has played for BBC shows, and conducted by Emma Trounson who, along with conducting local choirs, also teaches singing to primary school children, the two choirs sang separately and collaboratively to create an interesting mix of voices and music.

One audience member said, “It’s not really my thing. I came along to support a friend but I found I did enjoy it.”

Both choirs are always on the look out for new members. Find more information about joining, as well as information about upcoming events, via their websites: Semper Singers and Fosse Singers
